About: Trauma Center trauma-sensitive yoga (TCTSY) presents opportunities for empowerment through invitational language and choice-making. During practice, you’ll be invited to notice body sensations and choose ways of moving, breathing, and pausing that feel supportive to you. You may find that practicing in this embodied way helps you strengthen your connection to your body and build a sense of self-efficacy.
No yoga experience is necessary for this slower, mat-based practice. TCTSY is an evidence-based, adjunctive clinical intervention for complex trauma and chronic, treatment-resistant post-traumatic stress. The practice is also suitable for individuals experiencing anxiety, chronic stress, and other mental health conditions, or for individuals looking to strengthen their relationship with their body. You will not be asked or expected to talk about your trauma/mental health history as part of TCTSY. More information about TCTSY is available here.
It is recommended that all participants have access to support systems or services that offer space to verbally process anything that comes up during TCTSY. Individuals who have been hospitalized for psychiatric care in the last six months are advised to wait until the six-month period is complete to join group classes.
Sliding scale: $10 - $18 USD per class. You are invited to make an investment that feels accessible to you. This is a trust-based system. Payment is accepted through Venmo, Zelle, and Paypal.
Registration: Preregistration is required 24 hours prior to each class. Please email Dawn to register. You will be emailed an informed consent form the first time you register for class. Classes with less than three people registered will be cancelled, and you will be refunded.
Location: All sessions will be held live on Zoom. You are welcome to practice with your camera on or off. Sessions will be recorded, but will only show the facilitator (Dawn). Participants are welcome to attend live and/or access the recording for one week following class.
